I realised at 1 o’clock this morning, as I lay in bed worrying that I wasn’t asleep and had to get up at 5 for two services and then drive 170 miles to Manchester, that I had managed to lose sight of the reason for all this activity in the doing of it….. This was a frightening thought, since Easter can only get busier as I get nearer to ordination next year and then beyond it. Definitely some lessons to learn here about balance and the importance of time for my own spiritual discipline – not sellf indulgence but essential.
I fell asleep eventually to the rhythm of the Jesus prayer and woke knowing that it is truly Easter…. a knowledge that persisted despite my traditional ineptitude with the Paschal candle (see carol service post here to be reminded why I shouldn’t be trusted with candles ever….). And as we began our sunrise service clustered on the church forecourt, standing in the chancel of the old church, burnt down in the 80s, we knew that we were part of a long tradition here as well as part of the church across the world and through the centuries, celebrating new life beyond our imagining.
Allelluia! Christ is risen.
Oh, you mean there was a REASON for all that???
Now you come to mention it, that does sound vaguely familiar...;-) - but I totally agree that wood is liable to vanish amid the trees with alarming ease. The good thing is that God does keep on leaping out and surprising me at odd moments during the worship for which we have toiled so assiduously, which is altogether wonderful
Hope the drive north went smoothly.
Easter love xx
